DESA DAIRY FARM KUNDASANG

Desa Dairy Farm - the largest in Sabah with an area of 199 hectares, is located at the Mesilau Plateau, Kundasang about 30 minutes drive from Mt.Kinabalu National Park. The green meadows stretching all over the area was so refreshing at 2100 meters above sea level. We arrived just in time for the milking process. Hundreds of cows were rounded up for milking.
Each of these Friesian cattle could produce at least 14 litres of milk a day. It was amazing that to see cows lining up or rather queueing up to the milking station without being guided. They knew exactly what to do!
Inside the "Milking Parlour"
This processing plant is fully automated from mechanical milking, pasteurising, homogenising, packaging and distribution. My friend bought a few packages of these milk for home.
The view of Mt.Kinabalu is usually fantastic from the farm. However it was hidden in clouds during our visit.

Take the Kota kinabalu-Ranau (A4)road. You will pass through Telipoh - Tamparuli. It will be uphill drive all the way to Mt.Kinabalu Park from Tamparuli. It is a leisure drive and you won't go wrong as it is the only road to Kundasang from Tamparuli.
You can refer to Sabah map at: maps.google.com.my

Have a good time!

Hi.. Do I need to have the four wheel drive to get here? I'm from west malaysia, planning to come here holiday on next week.

WONGLC said...

No need to use 4WD. Drive slowly when you are near the farm as part of road is slightly steep.

is that express bus will pass by that farm?

WONGLC said...

There is no regular express bus services going that way. To get there, you have to use the kampung mini vans. Ask some of the vans' drivers at the kundasang market place.

WHAT IS THE ADDRESS FOR THIS PLACE?

WONGLC said...

No address. Take the road to Ranau. It's about 2 hours drive you should arrive at Kundasang. From the market turn left into Mesilau road ..continue up hill for about 15 minutes, you will see the sign board showing the entrance to Desa Dairy Farm.

Hi there. I will be going to Sabah in October. Planning to go Poring Hot Springs after returning from the Mt. Kinabalu climb and stay overnight some place, then going to the Dairy Farm the next day. Any suggestions on a place to stay nearby? Also, would it be better if I go back to KK after hot springs and just take a taxi to the farm the next day?

Appreciate your advise, thanks.
