24 HOURS INDIAN RESTAURANTS

In Kota Kinabalu, if you are hungry and feel like eating after midnight or at any odd time, the best place to go is one of the Indian restaurants which are opened 24 hours. Like fast food chain, they have cooked food ready to serve within minutes. For me, I prefer their specialties, like the "Roti canai" and "Murtabak".

The "Murtabak", a delicious roti (pancake) stuffed with minced mutton, egg, onion or beef, or chicken.
"Roti Canai telur" is a favourite. It's a pancake filled with an omelette wrapped. It goes very well with dhal (lentil curry) or any type of curry, such as mutton or chicken curry. A cup of Tek tarik (Indian style mick tea) after the meal is superb.
Last Friday, I tried out the "Nasi biryani", a popular mixed rice dish made with spices, rice, meat and vegetables.  It was delicious!

Malaysian Indian restaurants offer great variety of food with reasonable pricing. The cooking of the  Indian food in Malaysia consists of adaptations of dishes from India, as well as original creations inspired by the diverse food culture of Malaysia.

FOOD STREET AT DAMAI PLAZA KOTA KINABALU

In Damai plaza, a large spread of local breakfast, lunch and dinner are available from morning till late evening. This is a good place to go "Jalan jalan, cari makan " (walkabout to look for food).
 The main food street.
Street food, ranging from Chay kew teow, noodles, chicken rice and all sorts of local cakes to BBQ chicken wings day and night. It's a good place to go for "roti kahwin" (butter and kaya toast) and a cup of "teh-c" (milk tea) during the afternoon break.

 The popular "SiewPau"(baked goods) corner
My favourite stall of fried "economy" noddle, bee hoon, kway teow and  a selection of  extras, like fried egg, stuffed tau fu, eggplants, bitter gourd, sausages .. etc
The fried economy noodle with tau-fu and curry sausage
 Fried dumplings

There are many food streets and hawker stalls in the city. We do visit Damai food street at least once a week.

RAINBOW LORIKEET

Rainbow Lorikeet,  a colourful parrot of Australia. I happened to come across a flock of these beautiful birds in a park near Indooroopilly in Brisbane.

They all have bright red beck and colourful plumage. Both sexes look alike, blue head and belly, green wings with orange and yellow breast.
 Close-up pictures
A lovely couple - but which one is the male ?
These curious ones were staring at me as I was zooming my camera on them.

TUARAN TOWN

Tuaran town is just 34 km from Kota Kinabalu.  It's half an hour scenic drive via the "Sulaiman highway" passing through the countryside.
Crossing the the Mengkabong mangrove river.

Greeted by these "horses"before driving into Tuaran town.
A small town with a population of about 50,000 and it's worthwhile a visit especially on Sunday, where the weekly "Tamu" market is held.
The landmark of Tuaran town - a nine-storey Buddhist pagoda.
We were lucky as there were still plenty of durians, langsats, mangostins and other fruits for bargaining in the afternoon.
It's RM3 per kg for the mangostin.
Langsat was at RM2 per kg.
Plenty of common local fruits - on the left was the "Cempedak", an exotic fruit of Borneo. It's almost similar to jack fruit but with a much more honey flavour. Jungle durians in the center and "bambangan" a local fruit, always refer to as wild mango
Then, we came across this local family selling Chinese youtiao((油条) and pancakes
The daughter was making the peanut butter pancakes.

The cheap pricing was tempting, so we brought some langsats, mongotsins and durians and headed home.
Enjoying the fruits at home.
