MEDAN, INDONESIA 3

Indonesian cuisine in Medan was one of the "best of the best". We had some of their delicacies in a local restaurant. The dinner was superb ! Most of the dishes had the Chilli padi as an ingredient. Medan is a hot and spicy food destination. We had this traditional Indonesian "Nasi Goreng" (fried rice). This is one of the most popular Indonesian dish. Sate Ikan "Grilled minced fish " was highly recommended - a good savoury dish.
Sate Sotong (Grilled Cuttle fish) was another favourite.
This piece of BBQ "Kampung" chicken drum stick was juicy and tender.
Bean sprouts with anchovies and Chilli padi. Stir fried "Kangkong" (water spinach) with hot "sambal" (shrimp paste) + Chilli padi
The hot and spicy "Ayam percik" - Spicy Barbecued Chicken.
.
During our short stay, we ate some of the best Indonesian cooking. It was great. I put on almost 3 kgs. Walking around a supermarket in Medan Fair, I noticed that there were so many cooked food at very reasonable prices. I could not resist and "Ta Pau" (packed) some and brought back to our hotel for supper.
The small roasted "Kampung" chicken.
Kueh Udang (Fried prawn fritters) - One of my favourite.
These Chinese fried snacks especially the "Youtaio" or " you char kuay" (油炸鬼) on display on the counter are also popular in Malaysia and Asian countries like China and Taiwan.
.
We had another great buffet breakfast in the hotel before leaving for the airport to head for home after a 3N stay. Entering the Medan International airport area. The check-in counter area. For departure, we had to pay the airport tax of Rp75.000 per person at the Airport tax counter before entering the departure hall for Immigration and Security check. We used the Apron bus to our aircraft this time. While waiting in the bus I noticed that there were heavy aircraft movement around the apron as a busy airport would be. A last look at Medan from the air as our aircraft was airborne. We may not be back for at least a couple of years.
