On 05 June 2015, a powerful
magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck Mt.Kinabalu and the surrounding area, cracking roads and buildings and killing 18 climbers. We have not been driving there since then. Last Sunday, we took a drive to Mt. Kinabalu Park for a short break.
It's
still a leisure drive from there on, but the condition of the road was not
like what it was some 2 years ago. Many parts of the damaged road are still under heavy
maintenance.
It's a beautiful morning as we were leaving home
Crossing the half completed "flyover" at Inanam junction.
Approaching the Tampuruli river.
From Tampuruli, it's all the way uphill.
Arriving the local Nabalu market.
On a clear day, visitors could enjoy the great view of the majestic Mt. Kinabalu from the Nabalu's view point. Last Sunday, it was otherwise.
From Nabalu, it's another 12 km to Mt. Kinabalu Park. There were heavy maintenance works along this stretch.
It was raining when we arrived the Park.
Visibility was below 50 meters.
We had out lunch at the "Liwagu" restaurant.
The ever popular "Nasi Lemak" and "Nasi Kumpung goreng"
We stayed for coffee after lunch and moved on to Kudasang market, hopefully to catch a glimpse of the mountain - to continue.
