OLD TOWN WHITE COFFEE

The Old Town white coffee was established in 1999 and to day, it is the largest coffee shop chain in Malaysia with more than 200 outlets. They have also outlets in Singapore and Indonesia.

The Old Town’s special brew was created in 1958 and served in an ordinary coffee shop in Ipoh. The owner, inspired with a vision and the passion to make and serve fine coffee, created a secret White Coffee blend.

He began serving this unique White Coffee to the residents of Ipoh. This aromatic white coffee soon gained popularity. The unique taste of the white coffee was later spread to other  Malaysian towns. Beside white coffee, their outlets offer a variety of local Malaysian dishes from the simple "Kaya toasted bread" to all kinds of Malaysian spicy meals, like "Nasi Lemak", curry and noodles.

Last week, we checked out one of their outlets near Karamunsing complex. It was a Sunday evening but surprisingly, the place was not crowded.

"Curry Laksa" noodles
   White coffee

All the dishes were well-presented but the taste was not that great. However, I must say that the coffee was very good. Price wise, it's a bit expensive compared to the ordinary "kopitiam" (Malaysian coffee shop). In my opinion, Old Town outlets caters for customers who are in the higher income group.

TERROR ON POM POM ISLAND SABAH

A Taiwanese tourist was shot dead at Pom Pom island resort, early yesterday morning. The 57 years old Taiwanese was shot twice while his wife was believed to have been kidnapped by the gunmen from the water villa.

There were 54 other tourists staying at the Resort at the time of the incident. The Police is still investigating to determine the motive of the shooting and kidnapping.

Pom Pom island is one of the six small coral reef islands near Tun Sakaran Marine Park in the Celebes Sea about 30 km North East of Semporna town, Sabah. The island is 2.3 km in circumference at the high tide line with a fringing coral reef 4 km long. It is a popular destination for scuba divers and nature lovers.

This is one of the shooting and kidnapping incidents in recent years. the most terrifying one was in 2000, when heavily armed gunmen took 21 people from Sipadan, a scuba dive resort nearby. All of them were released after an unknown amount of ransom was paid months later.

Meanwhile Malaysian armed forces have beefed up the security to avoid any further incident.

KG. NELAYAN'S BEIJING BBQ-STEAMBOAT RESTAURANT

Kg. Nelayan is a popular seafood restaurant patronized by both the locals and tourists. It is located at a lake about 10-15 minutes drive from the city of Kota Kinabalu.

Many locals prefer the "Beijing" BBQ and steamboat restaurant in Kg. Nelayan as it's a good place for families or friends to gather for a "eat all you can" dinner.

They cater more than 90 varieties of food for guests to BBQ, steam or both.
It's self service.
Many choices of vegetables, meat, seafood and others.
It would be idea for at least 6-8 in a group to enjoy a "eat all you can" evening considering the varieties of food.
